The more experience you have with medical billing itself,
the better your chance of finding something.
Then of course, there is the issue of moving up through
the company you're in. Unfortunately, with medical billing,
because good billers with a solid knowledge of the industry
are hard to find, a company is going to be reluctant to
move you up from billing to management. If you're really
good at what you do, they're more likely to hire a manager
from outside the company. It's ironic that the better a
job you do, the more you'll tend to be stuck in it for life.
Because the medical industry is so large in the United States,
if you have the skills and the desire, you can do very well
for yourself. Just be prepared to work very hard for not a
ton of money.
